Great news for Canadian soap fans. Prospect Park has confirmed to us that Canadian audiences will still be able to keep up with All My Children and One Life to Live once they transition online.

Prospect Park has announced the name of their new internet based television network, The Online Network (TOLN) which will launch in January 2012 (http://www.TOLN.com or http://www.theonlinenetwork.com). There are also plans to add the service on other platforms, including internet enabled TV sets. Additional reality, scripted comedy and drama programming will be added to the site. Prospect Park also produces Royal Pains and Wilfred.

On April 14, 2011, ABC confirmed that it was cancelling both soaps and would replace them with lifestyle shows. AMC aired its final broadcast episode on Friday, September 23 while OLTL is expected to air its final broadcast in January. On July 7, 2011, it was reported that ABC had sold the licensing rights of both soaps to Prospect Park, a TV, film and music production company.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Canadian actor Cameron Mathison (Ryan) and Lindsay Hartley (Cara) would stay with AMC when it moves online. Talks with Susan Lucci (Erica) and Alicia Minshew (Kendall) are reportedly still taking place. Meanwhile, OLTL's Erika Slezak (Viki), Michael Easton (John), Kassie DePaiva (Blair), Ted King (Tomas) and Sean Ringgold (Sean) will also make the transition.

It is also rumoured that Prospect Park is shopping both soaps to a cable outlet. Still no word yet if service will cost viewers money or if it'll be ad-based.

Will Smith and Jada PinkettHearing news that says that his marriage had ended, celebrity couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett quickly provide clarification. What exactly happened?

Yesterday (23 / 8), a tabloid said that the couple who have been married for 13 years agreed to end their marriage. In contrast to the attitude of Will and Jada who usually remain silent, this time they soon straighten out the news circulated.

“Although we do not want to respond to news like this, but (we declare that) the rumors about the marriage are not true. We’re still together, and our marriage is still intact,” they said, according to People magazine.

When the news circulated, the pair have been spotted together at a crafts supply store, Michael, to buy canvas and paint for Jada. Some witnesses also stated that the couple still looked happy when shopping together.

“They laughed and indulge each other. They seemed to be fine. It may seem cliche, but they are like most others. They look very nice,” said the eyewitness.

“They seemed happy,” said another eyewitness.

Meanwhile, not only Will and Jada who provided clarification. Trey or Willard Christopher Smith III, son of Will’s previous marriage, had commented through his Twitter account. “Is #WillandJada separating? They ARE NOT separating!  false information. Not true!! Retweet!!! Everybody can think whatever they want, though it is not true,” he wrote.

Camille Grammer says she regrets disparaging Kelsey Grammer’s small penis, but make no mistake, she is still bitter toward her former husband.

The Real Housewife tells TMZ: “While the media added words and blew it out of proportion, I acknowledge my part in this and regret my remarks.”

“Some joking remarks I made to Kyle Richards got picked up and caused my ex-husband great embarrassment and for that I sincerely apologize.”

Camille goes on to complain that she wants to settle their differences and move on with her life, “but Kelsey just seems to want to fight this.”

Specifically, she claims “I offered a 50/50 physical split with joint custody and was soundly rejected.” Moreover, he’s cut off communication.

“I fear the message we’re sending our children,” says the former Mrs. Grammer. “Now he will only communicate with me through lawyers.”

Or Katye Walsh, who responded to the remark about Kelsey’s package by insinuating that perhaps Camille’s vadge just wasn’t getting it done.

By Brian SteinbergAdvertising AgeThursday night — long a ratings smorgasbord and one of the best ways to reach consumers thinking about their weekends — may be yesterday’s news.A survey of ad buyers’ predictions of broadcast shows’ commercial ratings this fall suggests Sunday will, as usual, be the night that offers the most viewership for advertisements. This year, however, it will be followed by Wednesday evening, not Thursday as has often been the case. The survey, conducted annually by Advertising Age, gauges the number of viewers who actually watch commercials during a program instead of changing channels or fast forwarding. Viewers who watch ads live or within three days of airing are included in the ratings, known in the industry as "C3."To be sure, advertisers still value Thursdays, home to mainstays such as ABC’s "Grey’s Anatomy" and CBS’s "The Mentalist." Fox will air the "results" episode of its much-anticipated "The X Factor" on that evening — a sign that Thursdays still bear importance. Even the CW, whose programs are among the lowest rated on broadcast TV, gets a decent boost when it comes to such Thursday-night selections as "Vampire Diaries" and "The Secret Circle."But the power of those programs isn’t enough to offset a decline in commercial ratings for the evening, according to the survey. New Thursday programs such as CBS’s "Person of Interest" and ABC’s "Charlie’s Angels" won’t deliver C3 ratings above the inhabitants of their time slots last season, "My Generation" and "CSI," buyers in the survey predicted.Indeed, CBS’s decision to move "CSI" to Wednesday is one reason that night will contain more commercial ratings this fall, along with better performances projected for ABC’s "Modern Family" and "The Middle." Fox’s decision to replace "Lie to Me" with each week’s first "The X Factor" episode won’t hurt either.Could the projections prompt major marketers to shift more ad weight to Wednesdays? That remains to be seen. For years, Thursday has been used as a promotional platform for Friday-night movie openings and weekend sales at retail outlets. In many marketers’ minds, Thursdays remain the best way to try to influence weekend purchase behavior. But technology may be changing that. With more people using DVRs and video on demand, programs that air on Wednesday nights could get viewed Thursday or Friday instead. The web, meanwhile, has opened new avenues to consumers starting to lean into their weekends — such as online advertising that appears during the workday on Fridays.Thursday’s place in TV’s stratosphere may be in question, but Sunday’s dominance is not in dispute. Filled with NBC’s Sunday-night football broadcast as well as Fox’s block of popular animated shows, the night has carried the day, so to speak, for the last several years — both in terms of commercial ratings and as the most expensive night for advertisers, according to Advertising Age research.Mid-season entries could change the picture for Thursdays. In the spring, Thursday night will feature the "results" show for "American Idol."

By Rance CrainAdvertising AgeWhen Newton Minow was reviewing an early draft of his famous "vast wasteland" speech of 50 years ago about the sorry state of TV, the initial version read "vast wasteland of junk." He crossed out "of junk" as being redundant, but he had no conception that the phrase would be remembered 50 years later.Mr. Minow is perhaps the most famous of those who’ve ever headed the Federal Communications Commission because of that speech he delivered to the National Association of Broadcasters–his first as an FCC commissioner.Mr. Minow said a lot of things and made a lot of good points, but what resonated then, and what continues to resonate to this day, was his characterization of the TV landscape as "a vast wasteland."Here’s how he put it: "When television is good, nothing–not the theater, not magazines or newspapers–nothing is better."But when television is bad, nothing is worse," Mr. Minow said. He invited his audience to sit down in front of their TV sets from sign-on to sign-off. "I can assure you that you will observe a vast wasteland."You will see a procession of game shows, violence, audience participation shows, formula comedies about totally unbelievable families, blood and thunder, mayhem, violence, sadism, murder, Western bad men, Western good men, private eyes, gangsters, more violence, and cartoons. And endless commercials–many screaming, cajoling and offending. And most of all boredom."Today, 50 years and hundreds of cable and satellite channels later, the ,000 question is: Is TV today just a vaster wasteland?"It’s vaster, certainly," Mr. Minow said. But it also gives viewers a "wider range of choice. That was the main thing I tried to do. At the time I was at the FCC there were two-and-a-half commercial television networks, there was no public television, no satellite. The choice was extremely narrow. Many cities had only one television station, some had two, a few had three, New York and Los Angeles had seven. But that was it. The most constructive thing the FCC could do was to expand choice. And in that we certainly succeeded."A segment of his speech called for broadcasters to get tougher with advertisers (or as the Ad Age headline put it, "Sell better shows or let ads go"). "You can tell your advertisers, ‘This is the high quality we are going to serve–take it or other people will. If you think you can find a better place to move automobiles, cigarettes and soap–go ahead and try,’" Mr. Minow told the NAB meeting. After he left government, he became a director of Foote, Cone & Belding, which handled the Hallmark cards account, and Mr. Minow said Fairfax Cone, the head of the agency, was "very proud that Foote Cone not only created the commercials but also created the programs and did a spectacular job. So I think sometimes we went too far in divorcing the advertiser from programs because in the early days of television we used to have great dramas sponsored by Philco, Kraft. They were proud to have their names" on the opening billboards. "Now the advertiser and the program are divorced, and I’m not sure that’s always the best thing for the public."Mr. Minow, currently senior counsel at law firm Sidley Austin and the vice chairman of the Presidential Debate Commission, said one of the downsides of so many choices on TV today is that "we’ve lost the common shared experience. I think it’s increased the polarization of opinion. And now you have news appealing to particular ideologies, the left and the right, whereas before it was more in the middle. So that’s a downside. On the other hand, the possibility that people can find something of their particular interest on television is much greater than it was before."In his speech, Mr. Minow, in his litany of bad TV programming, mentioned violence three separate times. He said it was the worst problem at the time "and sadly, I think it still is."TV, he added, "often forgets how children are affected by seeing so much violence."After his 1961 speech, Mr. Minow received calls from Jack Kennedy’s father and Edward R. Murrow. But none from the president himself.Ambassador Kennedy said the speech was "the best speech since Jack’s inaugural address. And he said, ‘You keep it up, and if anybody gives you any trouble you call me."In his call later that night, Mr. Murrow announced that Mr. Minow had stolen his speech–that he’d given a similar speech the previous year to news directors in Chicago. "I went back and read his speech later, and I said to myself, if I had known about it I would have just repeated his speech because he was just saying the same thing I was."After adding the "vast wasteland" coinage, of course.
