By Emma HallAdvertising AgeH&M has announced its first Super Bowl ad, intended to introduce the retailer’s David Beckham Bodywear collection.H&M is a surprising player in the Super Bowl ad lineup. The Swedish company is well-known for its tie-ups with big fashion names and celebrity style icons. It has produced collections with Madonna, Lanvin, Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and, most recently, Versace. Each collaboration is launched with an original short film, created in-house, helping the H&M brand to establish its reputation as an innovative marketer, although it rarely spends heavily on media. The Super Bowl spot will change that and will provide an opportunity for H&M to showcase its collaboration with David Beckham, one of the world’s biggest and most bankable sports stars and a veteran of TV spots for PepsiCo, Adidas and other marketers.Apart from his soccer career, Mr. Beckham has earned a reputation as a fashion icon unafraid to experiment with fashion, hairstyles and tattoos. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Victoria Adams Beckham, a former Spice Girl and now a successful clothing designer, and their four children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. Although he plays for U.S. soccer team L.A. Galaxy, he has made public his ambition to be selected for the Team GB soccer squad at this year’s Olympic Games in London. That Mr. Beckham is a personal friend of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, only adds to his allure. The Beckhams were invited to the public wedding as well as to the private party at Buckingham Palace after. The David Beckham Bodywear collection, subject of the Super Bowl ad, launches on Feb. 2 in stores worldwide and online. It will include nine underwear styles, including four types of briefs, three tops, and pajama bottoms and long johns.David Beckham is famously rumored to wear a brand-new pair of underpants every day, so a move into his own underwear line makes perfect sense. He also had a long association with Emporio Armani as the face and body of its underwear range, while more recently tennis star Rafael Nadal and soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo have been posing in their underwear for Emporio Armani.Mr. Beckham is no stranger to blockbuster TV spots. He’s appeared in Adidas and PepsiCo ads for years. And he starred last year with actress Sofia Vergara in TBWA/Chiat/Day’s "Beach Tweet," in which Ms. Vergara shortens the line at a beach kiosk to buy a Diet Pepsi with a tweet pretending she’s seen David Beckham, who then appears. He’s also done ads for Vodafone, Gillette, U.K. supermarket chain Sainsburys and Sharpie pens.H&M opened in Sweden in 1947 and now has stores in 43 countries. The retailer also owns Cos, a more up-market chain, and youthful brands Cheap Monday and Monki, which have recently rolled out stand-alone stores.

Tiffani Thiessen and Mark-Paul Gosselaar attended the 2011 Kiehl's LifeRide for amfAR finale in New York City on Saturday, here's a pic! (There's more SBTB goodness at the end of this post)

– The only thing that this upcoming season of Desperate Housewives has got going for it is that it'll be the show's last. I'm hoping the show can go out on top (like the early seasons).

– We've got a list of all the fall premiere dates.

Autumn Reeser will appear on Hawaii Five-O as a love interest for Scott Caan's Danny. Over at Glee, don't feel too sorry for Mercedes now that Sam (Chord Overstreet) is out, she'll be spending time with  LaMarcus Tinker. Most of you will be familiar with Tinker since he's appeared on both Friday Night Lights (as Dallas) and Cougar Town, as Travis' roommate.

Lost's Jeff Fahey and Smallville's Justin Hartley (okay, okay…Passions' Fox Crane) will guest star as brothers on Chuck.

– CBS has ordered a Bewitched remake script from Sony Pictures.

What I Like About You's Nick Zano will recur on 2 Broke Girls as a waiter/artist who will serve as a love interest for Kat Dennings' character.

Jake McDorman, who guest starred in the Are You There, Vodka? It's Me Chelsea pilot, has been upped to series regular.

– We probably won't see much (if at all) of Eric Van Der Woodsen this season on Gossip Girl as Connor Paolo will be starring on ABC's Revenge. Eric will be headed to Sarah Lawrence for college.

The Young and the Restless' Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) is set to guest star on Ringer, while Michael Graziadei (Daniel) has booked a recurring role on FX's American Horror Story, playing the young boyfriend of Jessica Lange's character.

– Canadian viewers hoping to catch Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story will have to wait a month as Rogers Media will launch FX Canada on November 1st. The new network will also air high profile series such as Louie, Sons of Anarchy and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The 'A' channels will become CTV Two as of 6 a.m. on Monday, August 29th and will start broadcasting in HD two days later.

– TBS has cancelled Lopez Tonight. George Lopez' talk show will air its final episode tomorrow night.

– Fall 2011 won't be all Lopez-free, Jennifer Lopez will return to American Idol.

By Laurel Wentz Advertising AgeUnivision’s new Spanish-language game show is set in a replica of a Kmart store, where contestants compete in a flurry of supermarket sweepstakes-like challenges showcasing Kmart products from Hispanic-oriented lines from Selena Gomez-branded clothing to toys and tools. "Arrasa con Todo con Kmart" ("Sweep It All With Kmart") debuted Feb. 12 in an hour-long Saturday afternoon slot. Goya is also a sponsor. For Kmart, it’s the first time the retailer’s name has been part of the title of a TV show, and reflects both Kmart’s growing focus on Hispanic consumers and Univision’s increasingly aggressive approach to branded entertainment, an area the biggest U.S. Spanish-language broadcaster has lagged in. Kmart is even mentioned in the show’s theme song."The census proved the Latinization of America is well under way," said Mark Snyder, Kmart’s chief marketing officer. "We’re trying to find ways to bring Kmart’s value proposition to this market and to go beyond traditional media."With the Kmart brand so deeply embedded in the show, "we’ve guided the process all along," Mr. Snyder said. "We have a big toy selection, and our private label Smart Sense was introduced in September on 700 products and will be on 1,200 by the end of the year." Kmart also has several brands with specific appeal to Hispanics, like Selena Gomez clothing and a Casa Cristina line of home goods endorsed by Cristina Saralegui, a well-known Hispanic personality and former longtime talk-show host."Selena is arguably the most popular teen girl star, and 71% of Latinas look to Cristina as a role model. Her brand is [about] family, community and culture but she lives in the modern world," Mr. Snyder said. "And we recently announced a women’s apparel line with Sofia Vergara ['Modern Family'] launching in September in stores."Kmart worked closely with Univision’s producers to build games around brands the retailer wants to feature. In the opening show, Jose and Pati, in bright shirts featuring Univision’s logo, play a game called "What’s Changed?" in which the game show’s model Carolina parades through the store showing off her outfit of brands sold at Kmart, then reappears with one item changed. The contestants spot that she’s added a gray Kmart scarf, then removed her Kmart necklace and finally swapped her Selena Gomez purse for one in a different color. In one of the shopping sprees, they scramble to find six items each in about a minute from a scavenger-hunt list. Jose wins by grabbing five of his items, including a flatware set, a toy, and men’s shoes. Pati only finds four, bringing back an extension cord and a baseball bat but failing to locate an elusive ice cream scoop. Pati exits with a Kmart gift certificate, and Jose is matched with Alfredo, the winner from the first half of the show. In the next challenge, Alfredo struggles to name items found in the jewelry department. (When he can only think of the English word for cufflinks, host Carlos Calderon, a jovial entertainment personality, helpfully supplies the Spanish word).Goya products are also featured in challenges, such as assembling a puzzle of a Goya condiment. The final shopping spree has Jose and Alfredo racing through the store to fill shopping carts with the highest-value merchandise they can find. By grabbing a Kmart Blue Light Special, doubling the value of his shopping cart, Jose wins.In a mobile component, a Kmart-branded mobile site on Univision.com lets viewers interact with the show and download a Kmart coupon.Mr. Snyder said Kmart will also air in each show four commercials, created by DraftFCB, which handles both Kmart’s general market and multicultural business. Sears Holding Corp., the parent company for Kmart and Sears, ranks as the 17th-biggest advertiser in the U.S. Hispanic market, spending a total of million in Spanish-language media for the two companies in 2009, according to Ad Age’s ranking of Hispanic advertisers.

Suck it
CW! BET’s revived The Game scored 7.7 million viewers in the U.S. on Tuesday
night with it’s one-hour season premiere. The Gilfriends spin-off was barely averaging 2 million on The CW during
its 2006-2009 run.

– Greg Daniels told TV Line that Steve Carell will be leaving The
Office
before the season finale: “Our
basic plan is to see the jockeying and interviewing [for Michael’s job], and
not have that happen off-camera…We’d rather play out the stories of the various
characters who want that seat, and show them fight for it.”

– ABC has greenlit the new Charlie’s Angels pilot that will be
produced by Drew Barrymore, Nancy Juvonen (Jimmy Fallon’s wife) and Leonard
Goldberg
. Smallville’s Miles Millar and Al Gough are also attached to the pilot. The internet is buzzing
with castings suggestions that include Sarah
Michelle Gellar
, Katie Cassidy and
Summer Glau. So far, only Robert Wagner has been cast as [the
voice of] Charlie. The modern take on the 70s series will be set in Miami.

Jason Ritter will be returning to Parenthood for an episode later this season when Sarah goes to him
for advice.

David E. Kelley thinks that NBC
might still consider his Wonderman reboot.

– Sad news, Amber Tamblyn’s stint
on House will wrap up this spring.

– Personally, I was also on Team Zack, but in no way did Slater deserve this! Police
were called to a restaurant after an angry customer shattered a framed photo
of A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez). The
man told the owner of the restaurant that “I just don’t like Slater,” after he
took the photo down from its place above the urinal and smashed it on the
floor.

By Brian SteinbergAdvertising AgeThanks to a 1970s ad jingle, General Motors Co.’s Chevrolet has long been associated with baseball, hot dogs and apple pie. Now the auto marketer intends to cement that alliance further with a bold sponsorship that burnishes the national pastime.Because Chevrolet is adding another level of ad support, Major League Baseball and Fox will start Game Three of the World Series at 6:57 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 30 — the earliest start to a World Series game since Game Six of the 1987 World Series. The start time comes an hour earlier than the scheduled start time of the 2009 World Series game on Saturday.Critics have long complained that baseball’s post-season games last well past family-viewing time and long into the night, making it tough for kids to experience some of the great moments that take place in late innings. The trouble, of course, is that ad inventory on networks before 8 p.m. is usually significantly cheaper than that available in prime time. What’s more, such maneuvering also cuts into time typically utilized by local stations and affiliates. The deal put into place allows Chevy to look family-friendly and gives Fox the financial security it might require. "We’ve said over the years that if advertisers were willing to support earlier starts at prime-time levels, we’d be able to begin games earlier," Eric Shanks, president-Fox Sports, said in a prepared statement."Starting the game earlier will allow more families to watch together," Chris Perry, VP-U.S. marketing, Chevrolet, said in a statement. "This fits perfectly with our commitment to baseball, which stretches from youth teams across the country to MLB."Whether such a pact could work on a weeknight remains to be seen, of course — though MLB expressed a desire to see more games start at earlier times.Starting games earlier in recent years has "helped increase viewership including more young fans," Baseball Commissioner Allan H. "Bud" Selig said in a statement, "and we are optimistic that the earlier start time for Saturday’s Game Three will keep us moving in the same direction."The time shift shows GM continuing to push advertising techniques that make its messages hard to ignore. After pulling back on ad antics during its recent financial woes, GM has begun to accelerate. Under Joel Ewanick, VP-marketing, the car maker has moved brassily to get its brands noticed — and its cars sold. By his own admission, Chevrolet was one of Mr. Ewanick’s most important projects, and he brought in Mr. Perry, a former colleague at Hyundai Motor Co., soon after he landed at General Motors late last spring.Under Mr. Ewanick, GM has signed a deal to return to the Super Bowl — with Chevrolet advertising — for the first time since abandoning it in 2008, and moved Chevy ad work to Omnicom Group’s Goodby Silverstein & Partners from Publicis Groupe’s Publicis USA.
