By Brian SteinbergAdvertising AgeOut-of-home viewership lifted this year’s Super Bowl audience by at least 20.7%, depending on the demographic, according to data collected by media-and-marketing-research firm Arbitron.Using data based on a panel of 70,000 people, Arbitron determined that audiences in two key advertiser-desired demographics increased significantly when viewers watching Super Bowl XLVI away from their own TV sets were taken into consideration. For adults 18 to 49, out-of-home viewing delivered an audience lift of 25.4% over in-home-only viewing levels, according to Arbitron, which defines "lift" as the number of away-from-home viewers divided by the number of in-home viewers.Among adults over 18, Arbitron found that 11.9 million people watched the New York Giants defeat the New England Patriots from an "out-of-home" venue, usually someone else’s house. "Viewing in other people’s homes is always the biggest contributor to out-of-home," said Carol Edwards, senior VP-sales and marketing for Arbitron’s cross-platform media. The initial Nielsen ratings released last week account only for people who watched the Super Bowl live in their own homes. While traditional Nielsen TV ratings remain the predominant measure of ascertaining the performance of the Super Bowl, one media buyer suggested that outsize events such as this annual TV staple are ripe for additional statistics. "Sports are social events," said Sam Sotiriou, senior VP-media research for Publicis Groupe’s Zenith Media. "People like to get together and have a few beers. This is a unifiying event and gives people something in common to talk about."Arbitron found that out-of-home viewing provided a lift of 20.7% to the total audience of people 18 or older, a 31.2% lift to viewers between 18 and 34, and a 23% lift to viewers between 25 and 54.Here’s Arbitron’s full breakdown of the national numbers:

Drew Ryniewicz was eliminated from The X Factor on Thursday night, a result that left Simon Cowell clearly angry at his fellow panelists for voting off one of his charges.

But Simon’s wrath is nothing compared to the words left for Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger by fans of Ryniewicz on Facebook.

Among the passionate, frightening, misguided messages posted by Drew supporters over the last few days:

  • “F**K you paula you dumb c**t you voted off the most talented person on your f**king show. i hope you die you DUMB B***H.”
  • “I hope you die, you selfish———-”
  • “@NicoleScherzy @paulaabdul go die”

These folks would be well-served to heed the words of Drew herself in this interview: she made it all the way to the final seven. That’s pretty darn impressive, and she has many bright years ahead of her. Chill, people.

Don’t shed any tears just yet! The show hasn’t been canceled…

But it will be off the air sooner than you think. Temporarily, that is.

Even though Fox gave the new freshman series The New Girl a full-season pick-up, it’ll be off the air for a while to make room for The X Factor episodes and MLB playoffs/World Series coverage.

So, beginning this week, the show has been bumped (meaning no new ep on Wednesday) and you’ll have to wait until Tuesday November 1 to see the next first episode. Heartbreaking, we know. But perhaps, absence will make the grow fonder and you’ll be even more excited to watch it when it comes back.

Fox must reeeally have faith in this show. ‘Til then, you’ll have all the X Factor/baseball stuff covered.

Great news for Canadian soap fans. Prospect Park has confirmed to us that Canadian audiences will still be able to keep up with All My Children and One Life to Live once they transition online.

Prospect Park has announced the name of their new internet based television network, The Online Network (TOLN) which will launch in January 2012 (http://www.TOLN.com or http://www.theonlinenetwork.com). There are also plans to add the service on other platforms, including internet enabled TV sets. Additional reality, scripted comedy and drama programming will be added to the site. Prospect Park also produces Royal Pains and Wilfred.

On April 14, 2011, ABC confirmed that it was cancelling both soaps and would replace them with lifestyle shows. AMC aired its final broadcast episode on Friday, September 23 while OLTL is expected to air its final broadcast in January. On July 7, 2011, it was reported that ABC had sold the licensing rights of both soaps to Prospect Park, a TV, film and music production company.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Canadian actor Cameron Mathison (Ryan) and Lindsay Hartley (Cara) would stay with AMC when it moves online. Talks with Susan Lucci (Erica) and Alicia Minshew (Kendall) are reportedly still taking place. Meanwhile, OLTL's Erika Slezak (Viki), Michael Easton (John), Kassie DePaiva (Blair), Ted King (Tomas) and Sean Ringgold (Sean) will also make the transition.

It is also rumoured that Prospect Park is shopping both soaps to a cable outlet. Still no word yet if service will cost viewers money or if it'll be ad-based.

gregory peck gets a stamp

Such a nice gesture!

Late Hollywood legend Gregory Peck will be honored on Thursday, April 28 by the United States Postal Service and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the First Day of Issue ceremony for a Gregory Peck Commemorative Stamp.

The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater, and it will be hosted by Sharon Stone. Other guests will include Laura Dern, Morgan Freeman, and singer Natalie Maines.

Peck’s stamp marks the 17th entry into the Legends of Hollywood series, and it features the actor portraying Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird.

What a lovely way to pay tribute to such a phenomenal actor!

Will U pick up some Gregory Peck stamps when they’re released on the 28th?
