The Tony Awards today announced the line-up of performances for the 65th Annual Tony Awards on Sunday, June 12th.   Featuring unforgettable opening and closing numbers and non-stop entertainment throughout the entirety of the show – the evening will include performances by the 2011 Tony-nominated Best Musicals, Anything Goes featuring Sutton Foster;  Catch Me If You Can with Norbert Leo Butz and Aaron Tveit; How to Suceed in Business Without Really Trying featuring Daniel Radcliffe and John Laroquette; Sister Act featuring Patina Miller; The Book of Mormon featuring Andrew Rannells and The Scottsboro Boys featuring Joshua Henry.

 

Additionally, casts from some of Broadway’s hottest shows, will take the stage this year -  including the 2010 Tony Award Winning Musical Memphis; Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark featuring Reeve Carney and Jennifer Damiano; John Leguizamo’s Ghetto Klown; and the cast of Priscilla Queen of the Desert featuring Nick Adams, Tony Sheldon, Will Swenson and special appearances by Paul Shaffer and the legendary Martha Wash. 

 

 As previously announced, the Tony Awards will reassemble an all-star cast of the New York Philharmonic’s April 2011 limited run of Company.  This once-in-a-lifetime assembly of talent will perform LIVE exclusively at the Tony Awards and will feature Stephen Colbert, Jon Cryer, Katie Finneran, Neil Patrick Harris, Christina Hendricks, Aaron Lazar, Patti LuPone, Jill Paice, Martha Plimpton, Anika Noni Rose, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Jim Walton and Chryssie Whitehead.

 

Hosted by Emmy winner Neil Patrick Harris, the evening will feature appearances by: Alec Baldwin, Christie Brinkley, Matthew Broderick, Harry Connick, Jr., Viola Davis, Whoopi Goldberg, Kelsey Grammer, Joel Grey, Marg Helgenberger, Samuel L. Jackson, James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, Jim Parsons, David Hyde Pierce, Daniel Radcliffe, Vanessa Redgrave, Chris Rock, Brooke Shields, Robin Williams, Patrick Wilson and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

 

 The Tony Awards will be broadcast live, from the Beacon Theatre on CBS, Sunday, June 12th, 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT time delay).  The 2011 Tony Awards are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

 

 The Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards are bestowed annually on theatre professionals for distinguished achievement. The Tony is one of the most coveted awards in the entertainment industry and the annual telecast is considered one of the most prestigious programs on television.

 The cast of Rent includes  Annaleigh Ashford (Maureen Johnson), Margot Bingham (Alexi Darling, Roger’s Mom, and others), Adam Chanler-Berat  (Mark Cohen), Nicholas Christopher (Tom Collins), Arianda Fernandez (Mimi Marquez), Marcus Paul James (Mr. Jefferson, Paul, and others), Tamika Sonuja Lawrence (Mrs. Jefferson, woman with bags), Corbin Reid (Joanne Jefferson), Michael Rodriguez (Angel Schunard), Matt Shingledecker (Roger Davis), Ephraim Sykes (Benjamin Coffin III), Ben Thompson (Christmas caroler, Mr. Grey, The Man, and others), Michael Wartella (Steve, Gordon, Waiter, and others), and Morgan Weed (Mark’s Mom and others). Also in the company is Sean Michael Murray, Xavier Cano, and Genny Padilla.

 

 Rent, written by Jonathan Larson, will be directed by Michael Greif who directed the show’s original off-Broadway and Broadway productions.  The creative team will include choreographer Larry Keigwin; music supervisor Tim Weil; set designer Mark Wendland; costume designer Angela Wendt; lighting designer Kevin Adams; sound designer Brian Ronan, projection designer by Peter Nigrini.

 

The show and opens Thursday, August 11 at New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.

Nominees To Be Announced May 3

As the spring 2011 Broadway season is in full swing now, the Tony Awards season is upon us.  The American Theatre Wing has announced the schedule for 65th Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards, which are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, and will air on CBS on Sunday, June 12th from 8:00-11:00 PM (ET/PT time delay).

The schedule of events is as follows:

Thursday, April 28th: Official Cut-off for 2010-2011 Tony Eligibility

Tuesday, May 3rd: The 2011 Tony Award Nominations Announcement , sponsored by IBM, will take place live from The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center at Lincoln Center.  A complete list of the 2011 nominees will be available at www.TonyAwards.com on May 3rd.

Wednesday, May 4th: The annual Meet the Nominations Press Reception, where the nominees will speak with media outlets about their nominations.

Tuesday, May 31st: Tony Nominees’ Luncheon–no press outlets.

Sunday, June 12th:  The 65th Annual Tony Awards take place at the Beacon Theatre.  The three-hour ceremony will be broadcast live (ET/PT time delay) on CBS from 8:00 – 11:00 PM.  The awards will be followed by the invite-only Tony Gala, which will take place at The Plaza Hotel in New York City.

Shows Will Now Run Through Jan. 2, 2011

Following initial success of Noel Coward’s Brief Encounter, Roundabout Theater announced  that it will be extending the show for four more weeks.  It will be performed at Studio 54 (254 W. 54th St.) through January 2nd.  It will have a slightly altered schedule beginning Dec. 7th, and will show on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM, Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 PM, with Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM.
